http://zaitcev.mee.nu/leave_the_unlatched_canopy_alone I find it astonishing that anyone would unbuckle themselves in order to close the canopy as late as in 2015. The extreme danger of doing that was well established back in the 20th century.
I'm somewhat surprised that you can't latch them without unbuckling yourself. If it's unlatched, that seems like the time you would least want to be unbuckled. You've lost one safety, for falling out, but you'd have to disable your second one to fix it... That is kind of boggling.

@kazriko It does sound a little weird to me too, but it's a fact that people do that. The autopsy of the woman who crashed Bonanza showed that she was not buckled in and her right hand was outstretched at the moment of impact.
