@zaitcev The YF-23 is a great looking plane. I would be amused if Japan ended up licensing the design, always thought it should have won against the F-22.

@kazriko @yamato_takeru_Z @zaitcev I think USAF already had strike platform in F-15E and wanted an air superiority fighter. In several of the recent conflicts USAF were hamstrung by restrictive ROE, which would bring adversaries within visual range, where the maneuverability of F-22 would count. Although sources talk about F-3 replacing F-2 in service, they clearly are not in any way comparable.

@avia @yamato_takeru_Z @zaitcev That was kind of ridiculous in the first part of Vietnam. Their aircraft were designed for beyond line of sight, but then they were forced to go visual confirmation only. Thus, they had an airforce of sitting ducks.
