@requiem i do believe people have collectively forgotten the concept of the static binary...

"oh no! static binaries are huge, we can't ship them! we have to instead ship a mini-distribution containing a private copy of every dynamic library our app calls..."

@requiem Probably they are just another approach to tackle the inability of the Linux community to make binary builds work across different distributions over a sufficiently long period of time, due to different ways of package and dependency management, different versions of libraries,... . See flatpak too. And I have mostly given up on hoping for a solution that fixes the root cause rather than just adding more complexity. 😶
