Logitech discontinuing the Harmony product line is the stupidest thing I've heard all week.
It's just sad because the remotes were really good and there aren't any alternatives on the market right now. I'm certainly not inviting Alexa into my home just to control a bunch of living room devices 😒
@fribbledom well that’s unfortunate.
@fribbledom are they really? damn it :(
@fribbledom there are various companies that make IR blasters that you control with an app over local network, without needing voice assistant shit
@fribbledom fuuuuuck. But then, my hope is that somebody will build a really really good home-assistant remote control thing. Harmony was basically h-a with a worse interface anyway (:
@fribbledom yeah, i heard Siemens also stopped their fax product lines a while ago. Companies are robbing germans of their favorite toys, it’s a mess.
@fribbledom This is the worst news I've heard all day
@fribbledom this is awful I don't even have one but I need one and they were too expensive and I was saving up :(
@fribbledom Logi just killed the entire industry with one fell swoop: https://mattstoller.substack.com/p/why-logitech-just-killed-the-universal
@fribbledom
( ESP chip + IR LED + Rest json api server code ) * Remote using devices == New network controlled devices!
@fribbledom Aww, those were on my wishlist. Though, lately my Roku app has been doing all the work.
@fribbledom Let's hope that my harmony hub will not break down or the backend services will not be shut down.
On the other hand: This might be a really good chance to create an open source IR database for DIY devices and a series of open hardware devices working without built-in spies.
@fribbledom En remplacement il y a cette télécommande géolocalisée et dont l''affichage change de contexte en fonction de l'objet que tu pointes dans la pièce.
@fribbledom
I use Blastbot.
@fribbledom we are waiting for our flipper.zero. It might not have as many buttons but could be part of the solution. #fllipperzero
@fribbledom
Source?
Everything I've read said they killed the Harmony Universal Remote only. From what I can tell they effectively replaced their Universal Remote with a Harmony Hub years ago so it's not really a surprise, even if it does require reliance one their terrible servers.
@fribbledom
You're right, shoot. Their wording is super unclear, but they're discontinuing all remotes from the Harmony line, not just the stand-alone remotes. And it sounds like they might classify Hubs as Remotes(?).
Yeah, it's been confirmed that the entire product line is discontinued.
The Harmony software might survive as an Alexa skill (yay, not).
@fribbledom
Argh! I wish the news feeds would quit burying the lead on that. Though I guess it's the super confusing naming Logitech uses that's to blame. I would not classify Harmony Hub as a remote so much as a home automation device focusing on home theater.
@kazriko @fribbledom That can only happen if Logitech open source the code. Otherwise, I don't see it.

@kazriko @fribbledom It's all about the patents (which they own) so it's pretty much a challenge. Open sourcing the code would make it much easier.
