@coolhandjames Not long ago they were reporting a 14 year old boy had died of Covid in Alberta and we should all be super fearful. Till it was revealed he'd actually died of brain cancer.

@coyote @parker @coolhandjames every time I hear about a child covid death in the USA, I try to find out if they were morbidly obese, and in almost every case yes.

@Moon @coyote @parker @coolhandjames Isn't it the case for adults too? My work team-mate who died while fully vaccinated was also badly overweight. Well, maybe not morbidly obese by American standards, but nonetheless.

@icedquinn @Moon @coolhandjames @coyote @stuff Well yeah, there's a ton of other factors, poverty, quality of medical care, etc. But there being even a modestly strong relationship is pretty impressive.

@parker @icedquinn @coyote @coolhandjames @Moon I am 200 cm tall and at that height BMI is getting out of whack. But it is the only agreed-upon measure and it works okay for most people, so it certainly shows correlation for anything that would be related to a common sense lard-butt.

@stuff @parker @Moon @coolhandjames @coyote @icedquinn The ACE2 receptor is responsible for regulating your blood pressure, and people who are overweight already have blood pressure problems. When the virus sends your blood pressure regulation out of whack people with lower base blood pressure are probably going to deal with that better. Add blood clotting problems to that from the virus clumping blood cells...
