these things are trash never use them

@mattock you have no idea how annoying I find the great lengths people will go to avoid just doing the job right

@deprecated_ii @mattock How about "to avoid accumulating piles and piles of job-specific tools and materials"?

@deprecated_ii >he has neither a nut driver, nor a screwdriver (of either kind), nor does he have a crescent wrench so he screws it by hand
You cut yourself on a hose clamp didn't you

@JungersGhost @deprecated_ii my guess is he tried to use a pair of needlenose's to crank it.

@deprecated_ii @Heil_Honkler @JungersGhost Those are nice, but how do I get one around the heat shield on my exhaust?

@ForbiddenDreamer @Heil_Honkler @JungersGhost you're gonna have to be more specific

there are many clamp designs that work for many situations and they are all better than the retarded ass worm drive hose clamps people use because they don't know they have options

@deprecated_ii @Heil_Honkler @JungersGhost Standard ass pipe, which I can't slide a clamp on over the end of.

@ForbiddenDreamer @Heil_Honkler @JungersGhost that still doesn't really tell me what you're trying to do, why do you need a clamp, are you trying to hold fiberglass wrap on or something

there are other clamp designs that you can slip around a pipe, and if you don't need to remove it more than once a blue moon you could just use stainless zip ties

@deprecated_ii @ForbiddenDreamer @Heil_Honkler @JungersGhost Are stainless zip ties vibration compatible? Suppose I'm adding a catch can to my car, and I want to secure 3/8 or 1/2 hoses over barbed nipples. Those little friction balls inside the buckles of stainless zip ties, do they indent the tie material? I'm kinda not wanting to lose all my oil 50 miles north of Corpus Christi, TX on Sunday.

@stuff @ForbiddenDreamer @Heil_Honkler @JungersGhost for that sort of thing I would use something like this:

mcmaster.com/hose-clamps/tight-seal-vibration-resistant-pinch-clamps-for-firm-hose-and-tube/

they're reasonably easy to remove even if they're indented into the hose (you'll need to replace the clamp after removal) and you can get a very even, firm pressure with them. I use these things all over my irrigation system and I haven't had a single joint leak under up to about 80 PSI of water pressure

the caveat is in a restricted access situation like in an engine bay you'll want to be careful to arrange the clamps so you can get to the little tab you need to cut to remove them later. not a big deal, but you just want to be thinking about that during assembly

@deprecated_ii A Subaru channel that I follow says that if you ever see one of these on a used Subaru, that means there's some other major problem on it like a head gasket leak that they're trying to patch together. Basically pressure buildup where pressure shouldn't be building up under normal operation. Under normal operation, the default included spring clips should be sufficient.
