A Saints Row reboot? Jeez, now video games end up in the same dire situation as movies... everything becomes a spin-off, sequel, - or worse - a remake.

I can already hear them cry five years from now: "why is nobody buying our games anymore?!"

@fribbledom "why is no one buying our 57th 620€ Skyrim special edition with slightly improved horse textures and Instagram filters????"

@fribbledom IMO remakes are a good idea if the original game was good, and the remake stays true to the original, while improving them on the technical side.

@fribbledom They kind of have been the last several years. At least some of the remakes have been decent, like Ratchet and Clank. Some have been an abomination however, like all of the GTA remakes.

@fribbledom that's been the case for years now though, hasn't it?

@inanedirk

I mean, yeah, I wouldn't be complaining if it were only Saints Row.

@fribbledom Pokemon has been doing it successfully for over 10 years. I don't think people will stop buying the games. They haven't when Pokemon went through its "fuck it, everyone will buy it anyway" phase in gen 7.

@fribbledom Some of these work out... the Tomb Raider reboot was really good. But it was so different from the original, but comfortably familiar.

If course, it could have been not related to Tomb Raider and I think it would have done well. There was nothing in it that said it had to be Lara Croft.

@tadzik

There are these exceptions, yeah. But then there's the flood of cash-cows that apparently need to be milked 😒

@fribbledom like that reboot of Doom from 2016 that went nowhere and no-one has ever heard of since!

@Baggypants

Is it even Doom when Carmack wasn't involved? 😆

Great game, but feels like an absolute exception.

@fribbledom I feel it's pretty wild you'd call out nu Saints Row, which looks pretty fun to play and has a interesting location from what I've seen, despite "WAHH 2015 GRAFIX" complaints. compared to the annual brown corridor shooters and sports games that are turgidly curled out every year.

@fribbledom I've given up on modern gaming. I've been setting up my retro stuff again and I'm just gonna enjoy the millions of games I've never tried

@fribbledom Saints Column? Pivoting gaming on its axis!

@fribbledom to be fair, I'm pretty sure Volition are still limited in what they can do due to THQ going bankrupt years ago and taking Volition's royalties with them. They've been repeatedly banging out games derived from from Saints Row for a few years now just to pay the bills, and to be fair to them it looks like they've put a lot of effort into this one. I hope it does well enough for them to survive and make original games again because when they are on form they produce some real gems.
