My grandpa was a chemical engineer and always used to tell me that an alkaline battery is an alkaline battery, there isn't really a difference between one brand and another. I took his advice and always purchased generics.
The issue is, while he knew his chemistry, he greatly underestimated China's ability to cut corners and save costs by cheaping out. There's wild differences in the capacity of even basic AA cells.

@TheQuQu Two days ago I replaced a 9V battery with an Amazon Basics branded one, and one of the terminals fell off. Because the battery wasn't inserted into the slot, I knew that the device had no power immediately and was spared a long troubleshooting session.

@kazriko @TheQuQu You know, I used to buy Amazon Basics USB cables, because what's the worst that can happen? My own code in kernel reports error 71 if data integrity issues cause checksum failures, and then I throw that cable in the trash. But having dealt with Amazon Basics 3D printing filament, I realized that a significant downside often exists.
