re: Amazon, Twitter, Facebook layoffs
@requiem I'm curious too. All I know is that the stock has dropped a lot. I don't know why (probably no one really does), so it's a weak explanation. I am curious too.
Amazon, Twitter, Facebook layoffs
@requiem My guess is that they probably hired a lot of people to deal with pandemic demand and now they're laying a lot of those people off. Their stock price graph seems to kind of correlate with that too.

@requiem In addition to what everyone else said, I leave this here for you:

Seems mighty early in the dev cycle to be killin' jobs with something like that; knowing it's in a working alpha or beta maaaay have given them the confidence to push the "EJECT WORKERS" button 🤷
re: Amazon, Twitter, Facebook layoffs
@requiem I can see some reason for it, but at the same time there's things about it that don't make sense. One is that there's still a massive supply crunch from China, and Amazon mostly sells things from there, so perhaps they're expecting shortages and not as much need for shipping. On the other hand, we're heading into a couple of decades of demographic driven labor shortages, so they should probably hold onto people they have.
