Was reading a manga called "Sen no Sukiru o Motsu Otoko" and chapter 41 is a definite "tell me you don't understand firearms without telling me you don't understand firearms" moment...
@kazriko It happens often. I saw worse, like "PKM in 7.62 NATO" in a manga about isekai with guns! The Manuke FPS was good about it, although gaymer af (the guy starts out mowing goblins with a P90).
@gat @kazriko As much as getting firearms details wrong annoys me or worse, I have to factor in they’ve been banned for the Japanese people in general since 1588 and I grew up in US Gun Culture V1.0, and was pretty quickly into Small Arms of the World and V2.0.
Then again “PKM in 7.62 NATO” is possible and is not going to change the plot unless they’ve got ammo procurement problems??
@ThatWouldBeTelling @kazriko That poor PKM was accompanied by a drawing of a belt with rimmed cartridges. The MC starts out with S&W Model 10 - very Japanese.
@kazriko BTW, I got sidetracked to Hokkaidou no Geneki Hunter isekai, and there's a moment in there where he hunts pigeons. In a room. Well... I hunted pigeons that were crapping on my airplane (paint of a fabric-covered airplane is easily damaged by poop), and it was nowhere as easy. Pigeons are spooked easily, and they adapt to hunting pressure: more careful ones are the last to survive. So it took me a couple of weeks to eradicate the whole population. It wasn't like a shooting gallery. But oh well, it's manga, and an isekai at that. It cannot be taken too seriously.
@gat @ThatWouldBeTelling In this manga he actually takes a trip to the US at least to pick up the firearms, and to fulfill the requests of the isekaied american Hero character (from Utah.) Gives the hero's family money and collects some of his items from the hero's family (including his rifle and other weapons.) So it might make sense that he has US weapons. The thing that was dumb was that the guns were firing the entire cartridge out instead of just the bullet.
