Huh, I put Haiku on an EeePC 4G months ago... I thought I posted about that...

@socketwench would love to hear more.

I really wish I could get Haiku working on my modded netbook, it would be such a perfect combination.

@socketwench I’ve made several attempts, but I can’t get past some hardware compatibility problem (can’t remember if it was a bus controller or some other weird thing, but I remember it was something I couldn’t remove without a soldering iron 🤣).

@socketwench weirdly thing thing also shipped with Linux (and still runs it just fine).

Now I want to go back and try again just so I can remember exactly what went wrong…

@requiem
Haiku is amazingly fast and even has libreoffice these days.
My luck has been mixed on real iron, but always involves boot problems. My last attempt will not boot and it's not the mbr as with other attempts. I haven't touched it for a few months now.
I have an eeepc *somewhere* with an old version of pclos on it and that's a very good idea for it!
@socketwench

@gemlog @socketwench oh man, I’ll have to give it another shot

@gemlog @socketwench holy crap, it works now!

Haiku OS running on Lenovo S10-2 netbook.

@requiem
I too have a laptop that boots (after I fixed the mbr) and also can't find the wifi, although it lists all the networks, I can't use them :-(
The forums say just give up on that chipset and buy a dongle...

@socketwench

@gemlog yeah I think if I decide I need it that’s the way I’ll go.

There may also be an issue with the graphics (the OpenGL demos don’t show anything?), but again not really important for what I want to do with it.

I’m just overjoyed that it boots-up and works now!

@socketwench

@requiem @gemlog @socketwench That looks like a clone of the Asus EEE901, I have one of those that I run Haiku on as well.

@kazriko could be related, this is a lenovo (S10-2) but who knows what parts come from what factory 😀

@gemlog @socketwench do any of you know if they made any progress on getting running on ? Seems like it would make an amazing desktop for something like the @PINE64 Pinebook Pro, etc.

@requiem @gemlog @socketwench @PINE64 Pretty similar then, looking at the specs, just a 1 inch larger screen, so probably closer to the EEE1005. that touch pad with the metallic-looking buttons and the teensy keyboard just look so similar.
