I wonder if there is a cheap x86/x64 #sbc that #haiku runs on. Assuming I can port the tools I need it might make an awesome O/S for #se3d

I’d prefer ARM or maybe RISC-V but I’ve never had any luck figuring out how to get Haiku to run on those and I don’t need to make this harder than it is already 😅

@voxel damn, RISC-V looks closer than ARM…

Looks like the cheapest x86 sbc’s are over $100 and have honking heatsinks which make me wonder about how power hungry they are.

On the flip side Haiku seems happy with the most meager of system resources so even the cheapest board would probably be sufficient.

Hmm… LattePanda includes an Atmega32u4.

If I can get Marlin to run on that I could drive the printer parts directly from the same board 🤔🤔🤔

@requiem it is possible to install alternative O/S onto the Latte Panda but it is far from straight forward.

@skyfire101 after looking into it more it looks like getting Marlin to run on that atmega isn’t going to work.

Not a big deal to include another board in the design but it would have been slick to have one less part 😁

@requiem not sure about running Haiku on it, but one of the reasons I’m interested in it is that it should do VMs better than a RPi4 but use less power than an Intel NUC i5.

@requiem are you going to run a printer directly off a lab machine or just communicate with it?

@requiem I had a dream about a folding 3D printer that flattened out to the size of a large laptop. I wish it were real but I also don’t have a good reason to attempt to build one.(I don’t need anything portable really.)

@kazriko yes, I’ve been considering the lattepanda but I’ve heard it’s hard to get things other than windows and Linux to run on it.
