The thing I remember the most about McCain was his rabid hate of all things Russian. It was completely irrational, enough that he was throwing this weight in U.S. Senate to ban the importation of RD-180. Doing that would completely destroy ULA, which at the time was the only launch provider for heavy military satellites. McCain didn't care, but cooler heads in Deep State did, and his efforts came to naught. He was super mad about it.
And so, McCain is dead, but Russian engines delivered NASA astronauts to the ISS yesterday. ULA survived and introduced American engines on their new rocket, the Vulcan, also years after McCain's death.
