Reddit I am in my 40s should I start reading young adult fiction?

@sun You know, Father swears by the Harry Potter series, and that is considered one of the prototypical YA. I never really read it, but I trust his taste.

@sun I have to add, he says that it is as rich as Tolkien's stuff. He holds it in *such* a high regard.

@kakafarm @sun
Funny you should mention that.
Back in the day, Harry Potter and Twilight were on the peak of popularity together. And some author (Larry Correa maybe, but I don't remember) came out with a tweet: "Harry Potter teaches about the importance of doing what's right in the face of adversity. Twilight teaches about the importance of having a boyfriend."
Back then, it was seen a put-down. Now it's 2025 and it's like Pepe saying "oh wait".

@zaitcev @kakafarm @sun Apparently, that was Stephen King.

@kazriko @kakafarm @sun It's a common misconception apparently. Supposedly the actual source is Robin Browne. Not like I care: I think it would be better if Stephen King said it, given that he's going full shitlib a long time ago. And now, look! How the tables turned! But in reality his take on Twilight was somewhat more sophisticated, even analytical.

@zaitcev @kakafarm @sun Very common misconception then, because I searched through a couple of pages of search results and found no other attribution.

Heh.
Now imagine trying tell someone that nobody was raped at Epstein's island.

A curious thing about it is that we don't actually know how this hoax was started. Futtal himself commented on Reddit about lifting from Brownie. But how did it get ascribed to King? He did not plagiarize that quote himself. It's completely created by the Internet. But how?
