I've always thought we should be an example, not an implementor, of democracy. We should defend our own and be a friend to others.
In the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it's time for Europe to step up and America to step back https://reason.com/2022/05/02/after-the-war/ via @reason
Even more, realize that our system was designed around (a) democracy being inevitable and (b) limiting that democracy so it does not go full socialist.
@amerika I think that democracy is inevitable as long as we step back and let it happen. Unfortunately, a lot of ugly things sometimes need to happen before democracy does.
So, democracy = entropy?
I don't disagree.
...I don't think we should give in to the dying of the light.
@amerika No, we shouldn't, but our recent actions haven't done a lot to promote the light.
If by "recent," you mean since 1866 and especially 1913, I think you have a solid point.
@amerika Well, I was talking about more recent debacles: Viet Nam, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan.
@kazriko I think we need to make sure Taiwan has all the tools to defend itself, but I'd hate to get in a toe to toe war with China.

@kazriko That's what we do these days, make promises we never keep.
