The usual. Software developer, former BBS sysop. Atari XE, Dos, OS/2, BeOS, Windows 2000/7 former user, Linux/FreeBSD/Haiku/OpenIndiana current user. The various places I post are listed: https://arkaic.com/

@union @Moon @pomstan You can follow anyone you want, as long as you have your own instance. If you use the centralized instances? There's always some large instance that blocks you, or that your instance has blocked.

https://orowith2os.gitlab.io/posts/wayland-breaks-your-bad-software/ In this post it says "Almost everything that didn’t work even two months ago works now"

In my experience, it's the opposite. 2-3 months ago I was happily using wayland and it was working reasonably well. Then an sddm update happened. Not only did I have to disable Wayland in SDDM, but the scripts for launching KDE in Wayland broke. Now I can't use wayland on my desktop at all.

It is working on my phone though via sxmo.

@chris I have a similar, though one generation older with the same amount of ram, I installed Devuan on it with xfce, but I've also used SolydK on another laptop with similar specs. (Mine's a i5-2560m with an older radeon hd mobile graphics chipset.) Beginner friendly is the rub though. SolydK or SolydX would be better choices for beginners than Devuan, and Mint is probably the best one on your list for beginners.

@MASTERBOOTRECORD Still my favorite video card maker.

@TechConnectify @smallerdemon My wife hates it being cold at night, so I can't use that trick unfortunately.

@TechConnectify @marcoarment Yeah, tesla's obsession with touch screen controls is part of what would make me less likely to buy their stuff, unless it was pre-hacked and I could add my own control panels all over the place.

@TechConnectify Yeah, saw that you added that later in the conversation. So as long as you need to eat each time you need to charge, then that's a good model.

@TechConnectify @genecowan @jann Loves here is about 2 miles away from any sort of shopping other than Loves and its colocated restaurant itself here, so if it takes longer than about the time it takes to eat lunch to charge then there's not much for the user to do there. Not something that would completely kill the idea, but if it's a 1-2 hour charge time then having it near an actual mall like the SC is located is a little more convenient for a way to pass the time. If you're just doing 30 minute charges every 3-4 hours that might make sense.

Makes even more sense if you colocate them at tourist traps like Wall Drug.

@gamingonlinux I clean it every couple of weeks, but not a deep cleaning, I mostly just shake it out, run a shim between the keys to collect all the cat hair that accumulates like crazy, then shake it out again, and then I'll brush down any obviously dirty keycaps. If I don't then some of the keys start bottoming out against cat fuzz after 3-4 months.

@PINE64 Might be more fun to build a slap-on smart speaker module that you could attach to a speaker or a pair of speakers.

@TechConnectify Electroboom made a cable to do this in one of his videos.

@TechConnectify @OrionKidder @peregrine It won't make sense to buy a *new* gas powered vehicle, but used? When your main wear item in the alternative is $20k minimum replacement cost, used electric cars aren't going to be an attractive option. Maybe when the cost of battery packs is down to under $3000 it might be an alternative to used gas powered beaters.

@matuzo Which era of the HTML spec? Back before CSS, that certainly was the standard practice, I think CSS taking over made everyone shift to divs, divs everywhere...

@union I haven't been watching US media closely, but my alternate news sources at least are showing the flooding in China.

@Johncdvorak Some of those items don't lead to $20 being equivalent to $1, but more like $5-10. The 18 eggs for example, I just paid around $5 for 18 eggs yesterday, and sometimes in the past 4 years I've picked 30 up for $7.50. Canned corn is similar, frozen green beans as well. The steak is a counterexample though, since it's around $25 if you go to Texas Roadhouse. So inflation is variable for different items. In the last 4 years the 3 gallons of gas has been between $6 and $15 depending on the market that week. $12 right now. Chocolate bars, $10 or so. The calculation that would really go against that would be the one for what fraction of a TV you could buy for $1, and how much for the same fraction now.

@requiem Check their website for specs though for the port. The one I'm looking at is "VOC 35-150V, 12A." for its solar port.

@requiem The ones Bluetti sells are 350w panels, so anything above that would probably work.

@requiem 4 of the 170w panels would probably do it. I've seen bluetti systems running on that sort of arrangement.

@stuff (By Pork chops, I mean the Shake and Bake style ones.)

@stuff Closest thing that we usually get to that is Pork chops and Chicken Fried Steak I think. It's my favorite thing to get when I go to the Japanese and Hawaiian restaurants nearby.
